Honeymoon Planning Tip {Why to use a Travel Agent}

With the use of the world wide web these days hiring a travel agent to book your honeymoon may seem obsolete. As much as I love searching through orbitz, cheaptickets, and kayak to find the best vacation deal... I have used a travel agent to book my last 3 vacations, including our honeymoon!

There are several reasons why a travel agent is beneficial, and my top two favorite reasons is saving you time and money! Instead of spending hours each day waiting for the best online deal, let your agent do the work for you (this is their job!) They have access to a major database and can give you insight on when is the best time to travel, the best honeymoon destinations and resorts, when to book, and much more!

My fiance and I sat down and met with a local travel agent and discussed all of our honeymoon options! We were able to browse through brochures of Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, and all of the other hot honeymoon spots. We already had our dream vacation in mind and ended up sticking with it... a Mediterranean Cruise! Our agent compared all of the different cruise lines and prices for us. This was extremely helpful for us as we were first time cruisers and had no idea what to expect or to look for when booking a cruise. Our agent even scored us both on board credits to use as we liked on the ship!

Wedding Planning Tip {5 Tips for planning a Summer Wedding}

Yes winter has not even officially begun yet, however many newly engaged couples are in over their head planning for their up-coming summer wedding. Here are some things to think about NOW in preparation for your wedding next summer.

1- Send out your Save the Dates extra early- Don't wait until the last minute to send out your save the dates. A lot of people will plan vacations upto a year ahead of time. Make sure your date gets marked in their calendars first! :)

2- Check the calendar!- Before you choose your favorite date based on the day you and your fiance first met (although cute) make sure that it doesn't interfere with any holidays (Labor Day/Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc.) ALTHOUGH... do not be opposed to purposely planning your wedding on a 3-day weekend, especially if you have a lot of out of town guests. I planned our wedding on Labor Day weekend for this exact reason. My husband and I have a lot of out of town family so we figured it would be a great excuse for our guests to take a mini-vacation.

3- Speaking of "mini-vacations"... make your wedding a fun-filled weekend!- Guests may want to take advantage of the warm weather and fun-filled activities in the town you are getting married in. Make useful guest bags filled with an area map, attractions, a local food sample, or your favorite dining recommendations. Make your wedding a weekend to remember!

4- Use foods that are in-season. As a summer bride you have the opportunity to incorporate seasonal, local-grown foods into your menu. Think a fresh green salad with tomato's and bell peppers, or lime-butter grilled corn on the cob (one of my specialties!) Berries can also be incorporated into your cake or another delicious dessert such as a blackberry pie!

5- Consider the climate & have a backup plan. If you are planning an outdoor wedding expecting to see beautiful sunny skies without a cloud in the sky, we hate to rain on your parade but you do need to have a backup plan for the worst case weather scenario. A hall nearby, an extra large tent, or even an indoor/outdoor venue are all options. If you live somewhere that gets very hot, or humid, I recommend getting a fondant cake if you would like it to be displayed outside. Although buttercream is delicious, fondant will hold up way better without melting before you and your fiance cut the cake. Also consider the hottest hours of the day are roughly between 10 and 3 pm... and evening wedding may be more suitable. {Also, don't forget your sunscreen!}

Wedding Planning Tip {DOs and DON'Ts of Gift Registering}

Registering for your wedding gifts is a fun and exciting wedding planning task! Who doesn't love going shopping and picking out things they love? However, sometimes brides can feel overwhelmed on what to register for, quantities, costs, etc. Here are some tips that will save you time and help you end up with useful gifts instead of a closet full of toasters!

DO- Register at more than one store. People like options!

Do NOT- Add appliances you won't use just so that people have options. This is your gift registry, make sure it is things that you and your fiance will find useful and necessary.

DO- Spend some time with your fiance checking out the places you'd like to register after you have made lists of items that you really do need (and want!!).

Do NOT- Choose items that are really expensive because you know you won't be able to afford them in the first year of marriage. It isn't fair to your guests... a wider price range selection is key!

DO- Scope out the store's website before you go so you are aware of the items they have, price points, etc.

Do NOT- Feel limited to asking for only household goods. If you are already set up in your house and don't need a lot, ask for some things you ‘might' like to have or even items like movies, CDs and more.

DO- Have Fun! Make it a date night and get your fiance involved.

Wedding Planning Tip {Unique Reception Food Ideas}

I am sure I am not alone when I say that my wedding FOOD was one of the most fun things to plan out! There are so many options whether you are having a sit-down formal dinner, buffet, etc. I always love seeing different ideas so I thought I would share some fun ones that will allow your reception dinner to have your own personal touch!

-Make your dinner feel more formal without increasing the price; have the caterers circulate during dinner offering your guests fresh grated Parmesan and/or pepper (works for either a buffet or plated dinner.)

-Give your guests their caffeine fix without them having to stop at Starbucks! Have an on-site espresso bar serving lattes and mochas!

-Have the caterers hand out glasses of champagne or your signature cocktail as your guests arrive!

-Have an "appetizers only" reception. You can serve a mix of fun hot and cold hors d'oeuvres. (Make sure to indicate this on your invitation as you don't want your guests expecting a full meal.

-Other fun trendy ideas include a sundae bar, a movie theatre popcorn machine, or cotton candy!

Shawnie & Justin... well, I just loved planning with them! We started just over a year out, which was great since they had a mini-destination wedding in Moses Lake! Their purple & green color palette totally reflects the fun-loving couple that they are. So many fun details... pomander balls (made by the bride's mum!), paper lanterns, and vases filled with limes!

The venue they chose, Hidden Meadow, is one of the most stunning venues I have ever seen! The landscaping is magnificent; there is a pond (complete with a picturesque little bridge that takes you out to an island), a pavilion, an awesome outdoor bar... too many photo ops to count!

Most important to them: their family and friends taking amazing {and fun!} memories away from their wedding day. From the entire bridal party descending down the hill to LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" to Shawnie's dad's heartfelt and witty toast that led to everyone singing Journey's "Don't Stop Believing", their wedding was everything they dreamed.

Wedding Plan Tip {Choosing a Reception Venue}

Choosing your wedding reception venue can be one of the biggest and most fun decisions you make for your wedding! The first thing you should do is decide if you would like to book a venue that charges an all-inclusive, per-person fee (most hotels, restaurants, etc.) or if you would like to book the venue by itself and be responsible for providing the food, beverages, linens, chairs, etc (halls, private residences, wineries.)

The advantage of the all-inclusive venue is that most everything is made available and included for you. Keep in mind that the choices of food, beverages and tableware may be limited. If you are having a tough time deciding between hiring all of your own vendors or having it come included, make sure to break down cost of each rental item that you would be responsible for and compare it to the overall price of a venue that already includes such items.

***Tip to Save Money: Try to eliminate the cost of the cake-cutting fee. Reception sites may be negotiable with this if you meet a minimum food/drink amount.

I had the privilege of working at an all-inclusive AMAZING new wedding venue last month in Seattle. Sodo Park (http://www.herbanfeast.com/sodopark) provided the chairs, tables, linens, food, bar service, and many other items that made the wedding flow very smoothly and even that much easier for the bride!

On the topic of the 'First Look' photo...

(penned by my amazing Husband, David Roth. I asked him to write about the 'First Look' or 'Reveal' photo, keeping in mind that he is a traditional man. Smile.)

I am an old fashioned kind of guy and knew very little about the wedding industry before I married my Wife, so when I heard of this “first look” business, I was somewhat taken aback. It seemed to me that couples who opted for this were cheating themselves of an almost magical moment in time. As a guy, we are usually less affected by the preparations and occurrences of our wedding day; until our bride makes her first appearance. It is amazing, inspiring, breath taking, wondrous, and yes, emotional. The first time I saw Bobbi on our wedding day, adorned in her dress and other finery, radiant in her own joy, is a memory etched forever into my mind and heart. (I just hope that as the Father of the Bride for my multitudinous Daughters I am less affected by it all than I was as a groom.)

For those of you that have chosen the first look or are seriously considering it, please keep in mind, I am writing a very biased article. Since we did not do it I can have no truly valid opinion of how that works out. I am sure the feelings are very similar, if not identical, as are the memories and impressions. But let us look at this clinically, pros and cons, if you will.

One advantage a first look has over the traditional is that it is far easier for the photographer to click away. After all, that is more or less the point of the first look. More time can be taken and repositioning can be done for some of the follow on photos if needed. There are no other people to worry about and if someone happens to walk by in the back ground with a ladder or something, retake the necessary snapshot. Stuff like that is either a wasted picture or one to be heavily photo shopped later. A downside is that many of the pictures can look posed. Well, let’s face it; they are for the most part, posed. Also, not having other people around somehow lessens the impact of the emotions you feel. I am sure Freud could explain that; I just accept it. Speaking from a guy’s perspective, a first look kind of makes the ceremony something to get through instead of the main event. We are an associative bunch of critters and most of us associate the ceremony with seeing our bride for the first time.

Another advantage to a first look is that it allows you time to more fully enjoy what you are paying for. A part of the first look is to have the personal together pictures taken, you know, the ones usually done after the ceremony when everyone else is drinking up all your money. There is normally less rush and if you need it, you can still take some photos after the ceremony, which means you get more for your money and time from your photographer and your cocktail hour. Heck, you might even get to change before the reception. I really have no opposing point for the traditional way of doing things here. I almost talked myself into a first look, but then I am a frugal man. Oh wait! Candid camera; those photos taken when you weren’t thinking about someone taking your picture are almost always far better than the ones taken while you were concentrating on maintaining that plastic smile.

It really comes down to what the two of you are most comfortable with in the end. As I always say, it is your day, your memories, your choice. Make them happy ones and it really doesn’t matter in the end.

Wedding Gown Fun... er, preservation?

The gown. Some brides know it immediately... the tears, the laughter, the not-wanting-to-take-it-off... after all, this should be THE most beautiful gown you have ever stepped into. And with so many designs out there, you can rock whatever look you are going for ~ beautiful, sexy, glamorous.. you get the idea.

So once the wedding day has come and gone, what to do with the gown?

Here are a few ideas followed by some photos my dear friend, Sandra, sent me to show what an UNpreserved gown looks like. :(

1. Sell it. *gasp* It's quite all right, Ladies, if you don't keep your gown. Not everyone is sentimental, and that's okay. Let another bride feel just as fabulous as you did! Great place to do the selling: BravoBride.com

2. Trash it. what? are you crazy? Trash the Dress has gained much popularity recently. It's all about having fun. You can do as much (or little) trashing as you like. Some couples jump into the lake or the ocean, others get down & dirty in the mud.. it's all you.

3. Keep it. Lots of reasons to keep your gown. Maybe you are sentimental... you can't imagine parting with this beautiful creature you searched so long for. Keeping it for your daughter to wear one day is another... I planned on selling mine, in fact, until my little mini-me protested. :)

*** If you do plan on keeping your gown, you must must must preserve it! Take a look at these photos of an UNpreserved wedding gown. (The gown will take up way less room in your closet once it's preserved.)

My friend, Sandra, wore this dress in 1958 ~ love the 1950s style!!

And here is what the gown looks like today; it's yellowing terribly. What a shame! The 1950s style dresses are so popular right now. How awesome would it be to have this in great condition?!

What does a DOC do anyway?

It's the age of the DIY Bride ~ and I think that rocks! I mean, how much more personal can you get? Not only will you look back at your awe-inspiring photos taken by your incredibly talented photog... but you can point and say "I made that!" Oh the gushing that will ensue after that...

Today's bride is savvy enough to realize that although her vendors are secured and her DIY projects are coming along nicely (complete with blog photos!)... she does not want to be the point-of-contact on her wedding day. Nor does she want her Mom, her Grandma, or her Aunt Helen who's flying in from Connecticut to take care of executing said wedding plans. It's a Catch 22 ~ you will only allow someone you trust to take the reigns on your day, yet it's *those* very people you want by your side the day you say "I Do".

This is where your DOC (Day-of Coordinator) steps in.

You wake up on your wedding day. You are calm, cool, and collected. Your carefully planned details are being executed by your DOC who, at this point, is also your friend. (Smile.) Your vendors are greeted and instructed where to go. Your reception is a smooth flow of fun...

Here is what my DOC package consists of:

Unlimited email & phone conversations to answer last-minute questions or just to be a calming presence for you.
Consultation 4 to 6 weeks before your wedding to review established wedding plans. (Every. Last. Detail.)
Walk-through of ceremony & reception sites so you can show me your vision. (This can be combined with the consultation to review wedding plans, if desired.)
Review vendor contracts… so I know what to expect ~ when they are to arrive, what services they are providing for your wedding, etc.
Final vendor confirmations.
Distribute final vendor payments (check/money order only) and gratuities.
Rehearsal Coordination & Direction – 2 hour.
Custom itinerary & time lines for your wedding day as well as the days preceding and/or following.
Time lines distributed to Bride, Groom, all vendors, and any bridal party/family members you choose.
Eight hours on-site Wedding Day Management ~ I will be the Point-Of-Contact for the day... for vendors as well as any bridal party/family members who have questions.
Serve as Personal Assistant to Bride & Groom.
Keep wedding party on task.(i.e. tracking down the rogue groomsman so he can get his bout. :)
Keep entire event as close to time line as possible.
Oversee ceremony & reception set-up.
Set up of details not handled by vendors ~ place all DIY projects for you, programs, favors, escort/place cards, menus, etc… as well as set up guest book table, gift table…
Choreograph ceremony ~ cue music and instruct wedding party.
Wedding Reception ~ coordinate all activities to ensure beautiful flow…
Wedding “Emergency Kit”. Double-sided tape anyone?

Another thing to remember, Ladies: if you wear stress on your wedding day, it will shine through in your photos just like your dress or those rockin' shoes...

Well, it is about time for me to make another contribution to my Wife's blog. On occasion I try to write something for her so the Groom is represented. Recently Bobbi consulted me because one of her Brides had the same problem Bobbi had before we were wed; a Groom that saw no point in paying for a planner. Unlike Brides, we Grooms are mainly concerned with the bottom line. What are we paying for, what will it give us, how much are we paying, why are we paying, and how will it really benefit us? These questions rifle through our heads at light speed with corresponding answers. Most services in a wedding are self-explanatory and we as Grooms can find the "justification" for the expense; wedding planners are the exception. To us, it is very hard if not impossible, to find the justification for the seemingly substantial expense. I mean really what do they do other than direct other vendors on how to do their jobs; people who do this stuff all the time and already know what to do and how to do it. As long as the couple develops a kinda-solid time line then everything will happen when or close to when it is supposed to and everyone, guest and vendors alike will also fall inline. That is what we think in simple terms.

Well fellas, let me attempt to dissuade you from this flawed thought process. To begin, I will tell you the obvious; money is important and my Wife being hired as your wedding planner makes us money. Easy street right? Not even close. If you hire her for just day of coordination, then she is still doing a lot of work. Take a look over her planning packages and you can verify this statement. The thing I will point out at this time is that she hasn't listed everything she is doing on the couples behalf in any of her packages. Like you, I saw no point in hiring someone to do all that stuff and as a result my Niece and my Sister saw very little of my wedding as a guest and even less of me. They did all the stuff a planner would have done and as a result had some problems with a few of the vendors that I had to address later. If your planner has a problem with a vendor, who cares; that's why you pay them - so you don't have deal with that crap. You planner will be as pushy, demanding, or bitchy as she needs to be to make these clowns follow through on their contracts and keep to the schedule. Vendors are like any other person and will try, at times, to "get by". A planner is employed to prevent that. The planner is only concerned with keeping your wedding in the lime light for the right reason. One very important thing I need to point out here is that a planner's entire reputation is based on how effectively they work for you. You want to maximize your dollar, then a wedding planner is it.

Times are hard. When aren't they? We all want to look back at our lives with fondness and enjoy the memories. Will that be possible without a wedding planner? Sure. You can roll the dice and hope for the best. Thousands of Americans wed each year without a planner and have no problems at all. So why then should you spend the money for someone you can do without? Because if you do then your probability of those memories and fond look backs are increased and almost assured... call it the first gift you give your new wife. Also, Bobbi is the best wedding planner you can ever get for the price. No I don't say that because she is my Wife; hell I tell one of my Daughters she was an ugly baby, and I say it because it's true. As for my Daughter; can you say swan?

What's in a name?

There are so many fun things about starting a business... your business name, for example. This one wasn't hard for me, as I like my name; it's unique.

Coming up with the names for my planning packages, though... not quite so easy. So, I turned to my Husband, David, for help. (He's really quite amazing!)

He thought about this for a matter of minutes and came up with Bliss, Inspiration, and Happiness. I thought about this for days, and he comes up with something right away. (I told you he is amazing!) I offer a little explanation...

Bliss ~ my Day-Of Coordination package. The Bride & Groom have done all of the planning, but want someone to bring their details together flawlessly. No worry. No 'To Do' Lists or stress ~ just bliss.

Inspiration ~ my Partial Planning package. Quite self-explanatory, this package is for Brides & Grooms doing the majority of their planning, but who are in need of a little inspiration to get their plans going.

Happiness ~ my Full Planning package... and my personal favorite, because Happiness is what my Husband calls me. Yes, he calls me Happiness. What a blessed girl I am... when the phone rings, I answer "Hello?", he says "Hello Happiness"... my heart just melts. Every time.

Shenna & Ryan... what a fun couple! They live in California, but they had a 'hometown' Seattle wedding in June. Their ceremony was at the beautiful Immaculate Conception Church, followed by an amazing reception at the Seattle Sheraton. (Incredible food & outstanding service!)
And somewhere in between, they found time to get some great urban shots in downtown Seattle.
I just love it that they were announced into their reception to the Chicago Bulls theme song... complete with the Groom carrying the Bride right in!

Jenni & Jason... they are the sweetest couple! Being around them, you can feel the love! Their amazing day took place @ The Landmark Convention Center in Tacoma. Jenni looked absolutely stunning, and Jason, well one look at him, and you can tell he's head over heels for this girl!

Their wedding theme was "Better Together", which was incorporated in everything from their names on the sign out front to the S'mores table they had at their reception!

JennyGG, as usual, captured the day perfectly... the emotion, the fun, the gorgeous details. She is amazing!!

I'm always on the look out for unique wedding registry ideas, and I've found another! My friend, Jenn Bell, is a Tupperware consultant, and guess what?! Tupperware offers a Wedding Registry!!

What a beautiful day for a wedding on Lake Tapps... we've had a rather hot few days here in the Pacific Northwest; luckily, today wasn't so bad.
Lindsay & Josh were married under a beautiful bamboo arch (made by Lindsay's dad!) right on the lake, with Mount Rainier off in the distance. Josh's Dad, Dean, was their celebrant/officiant/guy who married them, and he was fabulous!! He did an amazing job making their ceremony meaningful yet simple. It was perfect!
I am blessed to have been a part of this wedding, bringing together these two amazing families.

Tiara always makes me look fabulous! I leave her studio feeling much too pampered. And Carrie, well, she's photographed me enough to know that I'm not all that comfortable in front of the camera. So, she makes me laugh. :)

Honeymoon tips

On the heels of all this Honeymoon talk... I thought it would be appropriate to give you some great tips on planning your dream honeymoon. This will be your first holiday away as Husband and Wife. After months of planning and making decisions, then finally tying the knot, you deserve some time to revel in your new life together.

1. Start talking about it - NOW.

If you are engaged, your honeymoon must be a topic of conversation.What if you and your Honey have completely opposite ideas of the 'perfect' Honeymoon? You might want to tan on the beach; he may want to go skiing in Vermont.

In addition to location, also talk with each other about the specifics... do you want to splurge on the room with the four-poster bed and the best view? or do you want a less expensive room so you can focus on the sights?

2. Contact a travel agent. Why? They have the inside scoop! Sure, there are thousands of 'hot deals' on the Internet. A travel agent, though, can often get added extras that you'll surely want on your honeymoon! An upgraded suite... possibly dinner for two. Be sure to spell out exactly what you want, in detail. Then, give your agent time to come up with the best package for you.

3. Wait a day. If at all possible, try not to leave on the day of your wedding. Spend the evening together in a local hotel. After all, your wedding day will be busy enough without trying to catch a flight!

4. When, Where, and How Much? In addition to your destination, you'll need a way to get there... plane? train? You will also need a place to stay and a way to get around - rental car anyone?

5. Documentation - once you decide where you are going, determine what documentation you will need. A Visa? A Passport? Medical clearance or vaccinations??

6. US Travel Advisories. Occasionally, it's not safe for American citizens to travel to certain areas. Here is the link for the U.S. Department of State - http://travel.state.gov/
You'll find travel warnings & advisories as well as information on Visas and Passports.

7. Local tourism. If you're headed to a never-before-visited destination, contact the local board of tourism. You can request maps, brochures, and details regarding any special events.

8. "We're on our Honeymoon!" Let everyone know that you're newlyweds. You won't believe the special treatment that you can receive!

What inspired you to become a wedding planner?

While planning my own wedding, my fiancé was deployed in Iraq. Since email and satellite phone calls were not very reliable, I had everything narrowed down (highly researched!) before I went to him with my ideas. I found that not only did I enjoy this process, but it came naturally to me.

I believe the planning process is much more than choosing the most beautiful location you can find and picking a few of your favorite colors. Do you offer payment plans?

Yes, I do. An initial deposit is required with your signed contract; this reserves your wedding date. I am open to discussing a payment schedule with you so that you may get the planning help that you need. I accept cash, check, or payments made via PayPal.

Do you take more than one wedding per day?

No, I do not. In fact, most of the time, I only take one wedding per weekend. This allows the Bride & Groom to have my full attention for the weekend as well as accommodating the corresponding wedding rehearsal.

Okay, I'll be the first to admit it: I am addicted to wedding magazines. As a planner, I have to stay on top of the seasonal trends. But quite honestly, there's nothing like sitting down (after the kids are in bed, of course!) with a cup of hot tea and a new magazine. The photos of real weddings are my favorite.

We all know how important details are... I was perusing through an old Martha Stewart Wedding magazine this morning; a Collector's Edition, with beautiful green and pink flowers on the front. Inside is an article called Special Delivery...

Once you've got your wedding invitations ready to go, put them in a padded envelope or box and mail them to one of the cities below to be hand canceled. What's the allure, you ask? WEDDING SCAM

Hi Everyone...

Unfortunately, this isn't a pleasant blog I write this morning. Sadly, I have received my first scam attempt. A "couple" from the UK claim to be moving here at the end of May, and they wish to be married in June... they respond with lengthy emails of how they met, what they've been through as a couple, and also what details and vendors they need for their wedding.
When I read the first email, I had a 'funny' feeling that things just weren't right. However, I went ahead and responded as I know there are legit couples who actually want to be married in the States.
Today, I decided to put their names into my trusty old Google search engine. Low and behold, I have not been the only ones contacted by this fictional couple.

Here are some of the emails I received:

How are you doing? Thriving!!!

My name is Jessica Farrell , from Enfield in middlesex UK (England ). I will be coming to WA afte my shopping trip with my Husband David Rodin who's French by nature to start his new work with the Coca-cola Co. in Seattle . And just before then we will be getting married on the 13th of June , 2009. We need a good wedding planner to take care of our wedding both reception and ceremony. So I have been married to my Wife for 6 months now. The entire time we have been together; which is a lot longer than 6 months, I have never seen her so completely committed to anything (other than me), like she is to Wedding Planning. I have taken the opportunity to write her next blog for a few reasons; she is my Wife, she is an amazing Planner, and who better to say great and wonderful things about you than your Spouse; not to mention true and totally biased.

Bobbi has a desire to out perform her strongest competition; herself. Yes there are tons of planners out there and yes there many with a lot more experience; however, none have her vision, her drive, or her ability to work wonders with restrictive budgets. More importantly, no one can compete with her spectacular prices! Grooms, you can thank me for that. The main service a planner provides is peace of mind and much less stress on your wedding day. The more involved the planner, the smoother things can run. Regardless of whether you have a Hollywood bank account or just enough to get the bare minimum you want, the knowledge that someone “in the know” and with “hook ups” is taking care of you and your day, well, it’s priceless.

Maybe you are wondering if you can afford a planner or if you really need to spend the money. Brides ask your Grooms if a planner is in the budget and if they are anything like me, you will receive an emphatic “NO!” This is a response I can fully understand. No, I am not sabotaging my Wife here; read on. After helping her plan our wedding (I was very involved), I have had a huge change of mind. There is so bloody much to do and plan and check on and recheck and re-plan; well, it just isn’t worth the hassle of doing it yourself. The amount you spend on a planner will be well compensated. Especially if that planner is Bobbi, my Wife.

Times are hard, money is tight, and in a few years you won’t remember any of that. What you will remember is how smoothly everything went and that potential “disaster” Bobbi averted, thereby saving the day and your memories.

Grooms are becoming increasingly more involved in the wedding planning process. Chances are, if you take the time to ask, he will actually have some valuable input and maybe even one or two good ideas! For example, my Husband enjoys classical music; therefore, he was responsible for choosing our ceremony music.

Traditionally, the Groom purchased the engagement & wedding rings, chose his tuxedo (a decision often guided by the Bride), and booked the honeymoon. This arrangement came mainly from the fact that the bride's family paid for the wedding. Today, more and more couples are footing the bill. Naturally, the Groom wants to see his Bride happy, but he would also like to know where his dollars are going.

Another reason for Groom involvement - time. A lot of couples find the Bride & Groom both working full-time, demanding jobs. Different aspects of the wedding planning (music, catering, flowers, etc.) are assigned to the Bride or Groom. This delegation helps keep the stress-level down and also keeps the Bride sane! Grooms are helping out here and there in the name of getting things done! This not only results in sweet collaboration, but gives the Groom a sense of pride and ownership on the wedding day itself.

I just LOVE planning weddings!

What do I love about planning weddings? Starting from scratch with these two people who are so much in love and ending with a day that celebrates who they are becoming together. Wow, that was a really long sentence just to say that I love planning weddings! I do love the planning process. There are so many ways to make the day about THE TWO OF YOU, and it's fun to bring those ideas to life!

Instead of the traditional receiving line, the couple can mingle with the guests during the reception. Imagine a wedding with 100 guests in attendance. Oh my, how much time that receiving line would take! Visiting at the reception is so much more fun ~ you can snap photos with people, dance, and well... eat!

After the Mr and Mrs walk up the aisle together and sign the marriage license - escape! Yes, escape! Have 20 or 30 minutes together, just the two of you, to revel in the fact that you just got married! This time has to be planned for, of course. It doesn't really matter where you go, even back to the suite the bride got ready in... maybe have a few appetizers and a glass of bubbly. (Okay, I can't stand the bubbly, so whatever you prefer!)

Table numbers? Who needs 'em?! Name your tables instead. You can go in so many directions with this! Did you two attend the same Alma Mater? Name your tables after the major attractions in your college city. Are you lovers of the Bond films? I'll take the Diamonds Are Forever table, please!

Don't get caught up in matching the bridal party girl for guy. If you've got 4 bridesmaids, and he only has 3 close friends he would have stand up for him, so what! Do you really want him to just pick someone so the numbers are even? This is your wedding! Those in your wedding party should be those that you cherish! You can get creative with the processional and even the wedding photos. Don't worry about having matching numbers.

Bridal Shows

January is a busy month for wedding shows... My wonderful wedding photographer, Carrie Stark of Elegant Images Photography, shares a few tips for those of you who plan on attending:

1) Print labels with your information on them ~ i.e. you and your finance's names, wedding date, email address, mailing address, and phone number (optional, of course). These labels will come in handy for the many drawings there will be to enter. Also, if you find a vendor you're just in love with, you have your contact information all ready to go.

2) Wear comfortable shoes... you will be walking a lot!

3) If you intend to try on wedding gowns, wear (or bring!) the proper undergarments and bring a pair of heels. Without these, the fit may be different and change your view of a dress.

4) As soon as you arrive get your issue of SEATTLE BRIDE MAGAZINE and Resource Guide. (See Carrie's ad on page 15 of the magazine! Elegant Images is also featured in the article The Year in Pictures, and they have an ad in the Resource Guide.)

5) Get (or take!) a bag for all of those cards & brochures you will pick up. Often, ladies will have two bags: one for the cards of vendors that really sparked their interest and the another for the rest of the cards picked up.

6) Drink plenty of water, and be sure to check out one of the fashion shows throughout the day.

Snow and Wedding Planning

Stuck at home and forced to do 'nothing' for your wedding because of the snow?

Nonsense! There is so much you can do:

Now is a perfect time to peruse all those wedding magazines you have laying around all over the place. (I know you've got 'em... I couldn't help but pick one up, nearly every time I was at the store! My favorites: InStyle Weddings, Bride & Bloom, and Martha Stewart Weddings.) One of my favorite things to do was look at the Real Weddings they had featured!

Another idea ~ ask your fiance what his ideas are; he has some, trust me, it is his day too! This was made evidently clear when I planned my own wedding this year. My Matron of Honor made this comment: "Even though David's in Iraq, he's the most-involved groom I've ever known!" It's true!! And I love it that he contributed to our day!

The Internet is a never-ending resource for brides-to-be. Here are some websites I frequently visited while planning my wedding:

Another great thing to do - look through photographer's websites and find shots that you just love! If you've got a photographer already, you can pass the information along.

I had the privilege of being the day-of coordinator for this happy new couple! The wedding was beautiful, and the reception was so much fun! The DJ, Ron Moore, was awesome!!
